RM Rail and Russian Railways are implementing a project to develop high-speed rolling stock

RM Rail, a leading freight rolling stock manufacturer in Russia, and Russian Railways will join their efforts in development of high-speed rolling stock and bringing it to the railway network. Such agreement was reached at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The agreement was signed by RM Rail General Director Maksim Tevs and Deputy General Director - Chief Engineer of Russian Railways Anatoly Khramtsov. The parties confirmed their intentions to jointly implement a project for developing a line of high-speed rolling stock. The project is supposed to result in design and manufacture of a box car for transportation of palletized goods and a flat car for transportation of large-tonnage containers. Both models will be equipped with 140 km/h design speed bogies.

Such issues as determining high-speed rail freight technology, providing motive power for this kind of freight trains and their routes, updating the normative base for infrastructure and railway equipment maintenance, etc. will be resolved through the project.

RM Rail intends to make the process of transferring design documentation for the engineered 140 km/h speed and 22.5 tf axle load bogie utmost accessible to users.

Maksim Tevs, RM Rail General Director:

- Discussing the prospects for the development of freight car manufacturing in 2025-2030, the Scientific and Technical Council of Russian Railways approved approaches that are based on end-to-end solutions and integrated transport products. We are talking about the promotion of high-speed door-to-door transportation, including piggyback and container schemes, as well as multimodal transport involving pallets. Our proposals take into account these trends. Moreover, they have found support among industry stakeholders and require very serious efforts in preparation and implementation. We expect that in collaboration with our partners these plans will be fulfilled.

Anatoly Khramtsov, Deputy General Director - Chief Engineer of Russian Railways:

- One of the goals of the Transport Strategy of the Russian Federation until 2030 is to increase the speed of cargo hauling. The signed agreement with RM Rail will serve this purpose to the full, since our cooperation involves the creation of new freight cars capable to provide high-speed service. This will be an entirely different level of freight traffic quality and efficiency, it will lay the groundwork for the formation of fundamentally new transport and logistics products.
