VKM-Steel wins the Mordovian government’s quality award
The Mordovian government has honored VKM-Steel with an award "For introducing a culture of quality in production, works and services”. The company was recognized as the best among industrial organizations with over 250 employees. Managing Director Nikolay Chalov received the award at the House of the Republic on May 28 from Olga Shanaeva, Deputy Head of Roskachevo (Russian Quality System organization), and Batyr Emeev, Acting Chairman of the regional government. The Kovylkinskiy Electromechanical Plant took second place in the category, and the Biohimik Biochemical Plant took third place.
Olga Shanaeva paid a personal visit to VKM-Steel, accompanied by Alexander Davydkin, Mordovia's Acting Minister of Industry, Science and New Technologies.
The production site became the main showcase of the company’s achievements in quality: 13 years ago, it made about 30 product types; and now, there are more than 700, produced for railroads and highways, agriculture, oil and gas industry, and special machine building. The sales market continues to expand.
The guests visited the new high-precision casting shop. It is fully geared towards import substitution. In 2024, this site became the first in Mordovia, as well as in the entire Russian railway machine building industry, to enter the SPIC (Special Investment Contract) 1.0 , and is currently finalizing the commissioning stage. Shop No. 1 is to be upgraded next.
Winning quality contests at all levels, from regional to federal, is the result of systemic effort. The plant strives to achieve high standards in absolutely everything.
Nikolay Chalov, Managing Director of VKM-Steel:
“It is important that we plan and control quality throughout, not just during last-minute fixes,” emphasizes the Managing Director. “A lot of attention is paid to labor protection and improvement of working conditions in the shops, the social package is being expanded, and wages are indexed. All this motivates qualified personnel who left for other regions to return to VKM-Steel. There’s room for industrial tourism, too."
Olga Shanaeva, Deputy Head of Roskachevo:
“I am impressed with the level of production and the approach to process arrangement. This experience is worth replicating,” says Olga Shanaeva. “Together we are forming a unified Russian quality system, where the best practices are becoming a source of pride and example for the whole country.”
During her visit, Olga Shanaeva was also introduced to the personnel training system at the RM Rail Corporate University.
