The Head of Mordovia discussed RM Rail’s operations with the company’s management
In the current environment, RM Rail is focusing on improving efficiency to ensure full utilization of existing capacities and maintain competitiveness
Artem Zdunov, Head of Mordovia, met with Maxim Tevs, CEO of RM Rail, to discuss the company’s operations in a market changing environment.
Unforeseen constraints on the railway network, low volumes of rail car checking, declining freight traffic, and high key rates affecting rolling stock lending and leasing — all of these factors create serious prerequisites for a slowdown in fleet renewal and, consequently, in production after the peak years of 2021–2024.
In the current environment, RM Rail is focusing on improving efficiency to ensure full utilization of existing capacities and maintain competitiveness. The investment program continues to be implemented, including through the use of state support mechanisms. It is aimed at upgrading infrastructure, reducing costs, and enhancing industrial safety.
Innovative rolling stock is under development. At the end of 2023, RM Rail introduced a rail car bogie with an increased axle load of up to 25 tf, as well as an entire series of next-generation models. Among them are a thermos rail car for transporting perishable goods, a self-contained refrigerator rail car, a Nakhodka rigidly coupled tank rail car for transporting oil products, a hopper car for grain with increased load capacity, and a six-axle dumpcar for use in mining operations.
VKM-Steel has built a state-of-the-art high-precision casting shop. It is more than 200 new jobs and opportunities for full import substitution. For the recent years, the company’s facilities maintain the highest quality standards in the industry.
Even greater attention is being paid to occupational health and safety: the company is upgrading aspiration systems, reorganizing workplaces, and actively involving employees in improvement processes. This year, RM Rail held a specialized conference on industrial safety, and thanks to the support of the regional government, the event will receive nationwide status starting in 2026.
In the first six months of this year, the average salary exceeded RUB 100,000. A housing program is in place to retain key specialists. Employees are provided with free hot meals, health resort treatment, bonuses for professionalism and dedication, and reimbursement of kindergarten fees.
