RM Rail certifies aluminum tank wagon for concentrated nitric acid
An aluminum alloy especially designed for this model has made it possible to reduce the tare weight in favor of increased payload
RM Rail, Russia's leading manufacturer of freight rolling stock, has received a certificate of conformity from the Railway Equipment Registry for one of its latest solutions: an aluminum-alloy tank wagon of model 15-1232-05 designed for transportation of concentrated nitric acid.
The 1407 aluminum alloy, designed by the Institute of Light Materials and Technologies specifically for this freight rolling stock model, has increased resistance to chemically aggressive environments, comparable to pure aluminum, while exceeding it in strength by more than two times. The reduced wall thickness made it possible to lighten the structure: the tare weight of the tank wagon is 21.4 tons (−3.6 tons in comparison with the analogues), and to increase the payload up to 78.6 tons (+3.6 tons) with an axle load of 25 tf. The tank shell volume is increased to 61.8 cubic meters (+7 cubic meters in comparison with the analogues). The service life of the tank is 40 years.
Obtaining the certificate gives a start to serial production of model 15-1232-05 tank wagon. Ruzkhimmash, a wagon building enterprise, has mastered the full manufacturing cycle of the new model, including unique plasma welding and friction stir welding operations.
The new product has aroused great interest in the market. An order portfolio for the coming months has already been formed.
