RM Rail presents a line of aluminum alloy models at the Russia Forum
The participants of the event intend to consolidate efforts to expand the use of aluminum in the transportation industry
An innovative line of rolling stock made of aluminum was presented by Sergei Drobzhev, First Deputy CEO of RM Rail, at the Aluminum Innovations for Transport and Infrastructure thematic session, which was held on February 29 as part of the Days of Aluminum at the Russia Forum.
"Solutions using aluminum are a new level of freight wagon building in the country and in our company," emphasized Drobzhev. "Minimal tare weight, maximum payload, high corrosion resistance, and extended service life are the features that together enable us to solve the key challenges faced by the industry and shippers."
Now, the RM Rail's aluminum alloy models include a hopper wagon for transportation of mineral fertilizers, a tank wagon for transportation of concentrated nitric acid, and a tank container for transportation of liquefied natural gas. Aluminum is widely implemented in production of other new products of the company; for example, the isothermal container and refrigerated wagon are equipped with an aluminum T-floor, and the body of the isothermal thermos wagon consists of a metal frame with the addition of aluminum alloy.
The participants of the plenary session discussed the development of the country's aluminum industry and an action plan to stimulate demand for aluminum products.
Taking into account the advantages of aluminum rolling stock application – increased railroad carrying capacity, reduction of infrastructure maintenance costs, prompt delivery of cargoes in short time and at minimum costs, the efforts of relevant ministries, Russian Railways, operators and rolling stock manufacturers to develop a set of state support measures should be consolidated.
The session was attended by Viktor Yevtukhov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Sergei Muzychenko, Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing, Valery Seleznev, First Deputy Chairperson of the State Duma Committee on Energy, Evgeny Vasiliev, Director of Internal Market Development of UC Rusal, Irina Kazovskaya, Chairman of the Aluminum Association, as well as representatives of aluminum producers, processors, and consumers.
The work of RM Rail was highly appreciated by experts: Sergey Drobzhev was awarded the Certificate of Merit of the Aluminum Association for Innovative Freight Wagons and Tank Containers.
