RM Rail and FGC putting a wagon of the future into operation
A tank wagon for transportation of light and dark petroleum products on a two-section rigid coupler (model 15-1271) can carry up to 14% more cargo.
RM Rail has successfully passed the acceptance commission for the tank wagon for transportation of petroleum products on a rigid coupling (Nakhodka model 15-1271) developed by order of the Federal Freight Company.
The implementation of the new rolling stock project started in March 2023. RM Rail Engineering acted as a developer, the prototype was manufactured by Ruzkhimmash JSC. The main advantages of the eight-axle tank wagon on the two-section rigid coupling are the total increased tank shell volume (184 cubic meters) and increased payload (150 tons). The model, designed for transportation of light and dark oil products, can carry up to 14% more cargo compared to existing tank wagon models in a 988 m long conventional train. This engineering solution will increase the carrying capacity of the limiting directions of Russian railroads, primarily in the Eastern polygon. At the same time, the eight-axle tanker is maximally versatile for operation on existing infrastructure.
The innovative tank wagon passed three acceptance commissions, where the experts highly appreciated the wagon production technology and its key components (a connecting beam and a coupling device). The new tanks are scheduled to go into production in the near future.

"The company has all the competencies and technologies to create innovative, customized products, and vast experience in the production of tank wagons. All the accumulated knowledge was integrated into implementation of this project. There has been no such rolling stock in the country, RM Rail was the first to make it. We plan to receive the certificate in the second half of 2024. I would like to emphasize that, based on the findings of the commissions, we have outlined a number of areas for the development of other rigid coupled wagons."

Taking into account today's reality and the turn of cargo flows to the east, the tank wagon was designed, manufactured, and tested in a short period of time. We plan to replenish our own wagon fleet with up to 10,000 eight-axle tank wagons."
