RM Rail RVS shipped the first tanks for construction of an oil terminal in the Far North
RM Rail RVS, one of the assets of RM Rail, Russia's leading manufacturer of freight rolling stock, has begun shipping the first vertical tanks for the construction of an oil terminal in the Far North.
The contract provides for the design and manufacture of 12 tanks ranging from 5,000 to 30,000 m3 for hydrocarbon storage. The total weight of the order is several thousand tons. The design was carried out by the company's engineering center, RM Rail Engineering, together with the customer's specialized institute, one of the largest oil and gas producing companies in Russia. This interaction was a valuable case study in the implementation of a business diversification strategy, relevant both for the company as a whole and for each of its enterprises.
The oil loading terminal, in the equipping of which RM Rail RVS is participating, will become the largest in Russia. Its main task is to service the fields in the north of the Krasnoyarsk region, from where oil will be shipped to ports and further via the Northern Sea Route to the world market. The project is being implemented with the support of the Russian Government, the total cost of works is estimated at 100 billion rubles.
Taking into account the increased complexity of logistics and installation work, as well as the peculiarities of tank operation in extremely low temperatures, the customer has higher requirements for materials, equipment, quality and production time.
Denis Shubarov, CEO of RM Rail RVS:
- Participation in such a significant project is a milestone event for RM Rail RVS. Our competitive advantage is the competences of a diversified holding company specializing in large-scale production of railway rolling stock, cryogenic, isothermal and petrochemical equipment. The tools and systems used to ensure a high level of quality for technologically complex products, such as railcars, are successfully replicated for the production of vertical steel tanks. We have experience in manufacturing tanks of large volumes – up to 50 000 m3, including tanks with a protective wall, stationary and floating roof, gas holders and other models. Over the years we have accumulated extensive experience in implementing projects of any level of complexity, requiring an individual approach and non-standard solutions. We are confident that this project will be an important step in consolidating the leading position of RM Rail RVS in the domestic market of vertical tanks.
