RM Rail RVS and NPO Isotermik have agreed to collaborate on the development of isothermal storage tanks
The market for large-capacity isothermal tanks is expanding rapidly in step with the growing production and consumption of LNG, though in Russia it has largely been dominated by foreign licensors
The development and production of isothermal tanks for storing liquefied natural gas (LNG) and ammonia with capacities exceeding 50,000 cubic meters took center stage during a meeting between representatives of RM Rail RVS, part of RM Rail, one of Russia’s top freight rolling stock manufacturers, and NPO Isotermik, the country’s sole designer of such equipment.
The market for large-capacity isothermal tanks is expanding rapidly in step with the growing production and consumption of LNG, though in Russia it has largely been dominated by foreign licensors. With their exit, the domestic oil and gas sector now faces the strategic task of replacing international suppliers with domestic technologies.
Isothermal LNG tanks are technically complex units whose production is regulated by a dedicated national technical standard. The gas is stored at a temperature of −180 °C under strict requirements to maintain a stable thermal environment.
During their visit to the RM Rail RVS production facility, the NPO Isotermik delegation reviewed the manufacturer’s technological capabilities, and both parties discussed opportunities for joint project development.
Denis Shubarov, CEO of RM Rail RVS:
- RM Rail RVS is part of a diversified holding company whose core expertise includes producing freight rolling stock, including tank cars for liquefied hydrocarbon gases, as well as cryogenic, isothermal, and petrochemical equipment. We possess the necessary know-how to deliver efficient technological and structural solutions for LNG storage systems.
Nikita Chetvertukhin, CEO of NPO Isotermik:
- We are seeing strong demand from Russia’s leading oil and gas companies for LNG storage tanks. At present, we are auditing the technical capabilities of domestic manufacturers with experience in building vertical steel tanks and petrochemical equipment. RM Rail RVS fully meets the required criteria.
