Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation visits RM Rail VKM-Steel

Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, visited the foundry complex of VKM-Steel (part of RM Rail, the leading manufacturer of freight rolling stock in Russia). The enterprise specializes in production of castings for the railway, automotive, oil and gas industries, and agriculture. Its product portfolio includes over 500 items made in various grades of carbon and alloy steel, gray nodular cast iron, alloyed cast iron.

The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov, in the company of Interim Head of Mordovia Artem Zdunov, was made familiar with VKM-Steel foundry complex operations. All steps of the process flow, from core making area to melt shop, were shown to the Minister. Konstantin Danilov, President of RM Rail Holding, talked about the completion of the foundry modernization Phase One, which included commissioning of an up-to-date Electric Arc Furnace of 16 tons capacity. This increased the production capacity up to 1,000 car sets a month with a minimum level of unplanned scrap. It was noted that the CapEx program is planned till 2024 and will be proceeded with the expansion of capacities for the production of medium and small castings.

The topic of production diversification and development of human resources in the metallurgical industry captured particular interest. Denis Manturov was told about the system of training metallurgists. “We started from two professional metallurgists several years ago, today we have already trained 50 specialists ‘from scratch’, and another 10 will complete their training this year,” said Nikolay Chalov, VKM-Steel Managing Director.
